Boys and Girls Home

Lions of District 31N have a rich history supporting Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina located at Lake Waccamaw.

Headquartered at Lake Waccamaw, NC since 1954, Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina has served more than 7,500 children as a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 agency. Its mission is to provide a comprehensive array of services for children and youth who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or other family challenges. BGHNC offers adoption, family and therapeutic foster care, Success Coach services to prevent children from coming into foster care, and free children’s therapy, as well as residential care on the campus at Lake Waccamaw. The campus features a SACS-accredited charter school with a middle and high school curriculum, vocational education, recreation facilities, farm, equine therapy and a chapel. BGHNC is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation.

District 31-N is highly supportive of the BGHNC and specifically the Lions Cottage. Throughout the District, Lions Clubs worked diligently to raise funds for a renovation of the facility that was built in 1960.  Through the efforts of Lions in District 31-N and those from other clubs in North Carolina, the renovation was successfully completed in 2024 with remarkable changes to the facility.  The renovation quickly became the standard for other cottages that Civic Club’s sponsor.  But…Lions of District 31-N weren’t done.  As the well adage emphasizes, “Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion,” Lions Clubs across the district completed a fundraising project for the purchase of a greatly needed passenger van.  Fundraising for this project resulted in more than $40,000 being raised and the passenger van was purchased.  Lions step up when the needs are great.

If you would like to get involved with the Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina, there is always a need for assistance to support their programs.  They would welcome the support of Lions members and Lions Clubs from across the State of North Carolina.
